Ludwig-USA TODAY Sports The Washington Capitals acquired Jakob Chychrun from the Ottawa Senators on Monday in exchange for fellow defenseman Nick Jensen and a third-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.
Chychrun played all 82 games in 2023-24 and matched his career high with 41 points (14 goals, 27 assists).
"Jakob is a 26-year-old offensive defenseman who has nearly 500 games of NHL experience," Capitals general manager Brian MacLellan said. "His unique skill set and experience will undoubtedly bolster our blueline, substantially increasing our offensive capabilities.
"We also want to thank Nick for his contributions to our organization and wish him all the best moving forward with his career."
Chychrun has recorded 216 points (76 goals, 140 assists) and 308 penalty minutes in 467 games with the Arizona Coyotes (2016-23) and Senators. Arizona drafted him in the first round (16th overall) in 2016.
Jensen, 33, tallied one goal and 13 assists in 78 games with the Capitals in 2023-24. He has 134 points (19 goals, 115 assists) and a plus-17 rating in 562 games with the Detroit Red Wings (2016-19) and Capitals.
